Belhaven is located on the north shore of the Pungo river. One can go, by water, eight miles southeast to Pamlico Sound. The Outer Banks of North Carolina lay just fifteen miles east. The Pungo and Pamlico River and their tributaries, as well as the Pamlico Sound are a sports fisherman's paradise. A short boat ride to Ocracoke and Oregan Inlet and out to the Atlantic Ocean and Oregan provide a great deep-sea fishing experience.
The Atlantic Coast Intracoastal Waterway runs from New England to South Florida. Belhaven's quaint and picturesque harbor serves as port of call for several thousand vessels plying this waterway each year.
Recent interest in its location and waterfront access has attracted investers and those looking for a slower pace of life.
